Time Capsule

How will you remember this time forever?

We are living through unprecedented times, none of us have experienced anything like this before, however not everything needs to be negative! Time capsules are a great way to store memories to look back on. You might decide to let your future self open the time capsule, or save it for someone else to open. Set a date for the capsule to be opened, maybe your 18th or 21st birthday? When you graduate from university? Exactly 10 years from the date you create it?

What you will need:

Instructions:

A storage container - shoe boxes are great if you are keeping the time capsule indoors, however you will need something more weather-resistant if it is to be kept outdoors.

Items to put into your time capsule - it is completely up to you! Popular ideas are:

  • a copy of your favourite magazine

  • articles from current news stories

  • photos from the last year or so (family, pets, parties, holidays etc.)

  • anything you have recently achieved, such as medals or certificates.

Make it personal! Why not consider adding some of the following to make your time capsule extra special?

  • Write a note to your future self - what are your goals and ambitions, what are your fears? Where do you see yourself in the future?

  • Create a scrapbook where your friends and relatives can write personal messages for you (this might need to be done electronically and then printed in current circumstances)...these are guaranteed to make you smile when you open your capsule!

How you can support your child:

Tell us about it!

You can help out too! How?

  • Do you have any memories, photographs etc stored or saved away that you could give them to use for this activity?

If you want to share a picture of what your time capsule looks like, you can submit it using the form found in the navigation bar titled "Tell us about it". You can also tweet us and tag @OGATrust on twitter, don't forget tagging your academy twitter account as well!
